The Derelict Motel (sometimes referred to as Abandoned Motel, Office Motel, Blaine County Motel, and Sandy Shores Motel) is an abandoned motel and a mythical location in Grand Theft Auto V. It is located at Panorama Drive, Sandy Shores, in Blaine County.

Description[]

The Derelict Motel is a large motel, appearing to have been abandoned long before the events of GTA V. Several of the rooms of the motel are accessible, but most of them contain boarded-up doors and windows. The entire motel is completely gutted and void of any appliances or furniture. A small empty pool is situated behind the motel, and there is much debris and trash strewn around the location. During the daytime, bums and drug addicts tend to camp in and around the motel. The motel is featured as the main location in the first mission for Cletus.

Myths[]

There is much speculation involving the Derelict Motel, with some claiming that a ghost roams the ruins of the structure. Inside the motel, strange sounds can sometimes be heard, such as knocking or scraping noises whose sources cannot be verified. Noises that sound like a dinosaur's roar, a baby crying, and a bottle breaking can be heard.

A letter scrap for the Leonora Johnson side mission can be found in the pool.

Explanation[]

Most of the sounds that the player can hear may just be nearby animals. One example is DarkMythHunter's video investigation, where he points out that one of the strange noises players report hearing is in fact just a boar, an animal which is known to reside in the motel.

Trivia[]

  • The reported dinosaur roars may be a reference to motels in the Mojave Desert, which stereotypically have large Tyrannosaurus Rex statues next to them.
  • This article was once named "Blaine County Motel" and "Sandy Shores Motel" before it was called the Derelict Hotel.
